The student retains ownership of their thesis data unless otherwise agreed. Upon the completion of the thesis, the research data is typically destroyed, as stated in the research information sheet.
An exception applies, for example, in theses conducted within RDI (Research, Development, and Innovation) projects, where the data may be stored for future use. In some cases, it may also be agreed that the ownership of the data is transferred to the commissioning company or RDI project involved.
When the student graduates, their personal files are deleted, but any SharePoint/Teams environment they manage will remain within Haaga-Helia’s system unless the administrator deletes it.
The data should be deleted upon the completion of the thesis evaluation if no further use has been agreed upon. If you are conducting research involving human subjects, you must specify to the participants when and how the data will be deleted at the end of the study.
If your research data contains personal information or other confidential data, this information must be deleted as soon as it is no longer needed for your thesis, as it poses a risk to data privacy.
The deletion of a file, or its removal from the recycle bin, does not permanently destroy the file. There are various programs available for the complete deletion of file data, which can overwrite the information, such as open-source programs like Eraser and WipeFile.
M-drive
Personal data stored on the M-drive will be destroyed when student’s user account is deleted.
OneDrive and Teams
Data stored in personal OneDrive accounts will be deleted when student’s user account is removed. However, data in Teams or SharePoint is not automatically deleted. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure the deletion of this data.
Webropol
Data older than three years will be removed from Webropol. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure the deletion of data according to the research information guidelines. When you delete data from Webropol, it will remain for an additional month before it is permanently destroyed.
