We purchase course books for use in accordance with degree requirements of the educational programmes. The number of copies varies according to the number of participants on a course and whether or not the course book is used simultaneously on several courses.
An e-book version of the course book will be acquired, if there is one available for our library. It is not always possible to get e-books for library use.
We actively follow demand for course books and acquire additional copies if necessary. We acquire supplementary literature for courses according to need.
Remember to inform your campus library of all new course books. This is the only way to ensure that course books are available to students at the library. Use our book request form.
The library primarily obtains information materials needed for teaching, studying, and research and development. The frame of reference for new acquisitions is the library's collections policy. Materials are acquired primarily in the fields taught at Haaga-Helia.
You can submit requests for the library to add new material to its collections. If you wish, you will be the first to receive the book if the library decides to add it to its collection.
The material we acquire will be
available to loan from the libraryInformation on material purchased by the library is exported to HH Finna and the material is available to loan from the library. If you wish to own the book and not loan it from the library, first negotiate with your own supervisor on the acquisition of the material. We can nevertheless take care of the acquisition process, regardless of who pays for the material.

We always arrange separately the acquisition of electronic material meant for the teacher, such as teacher guides, with the producer of the material. Further information on the acquisition of such material is available from the library. Teachers’ materials purchased for Haaga-Helia are available on Intranet at Palvelut > Kirjasto > Opettajamateriaalit (in Finnish).
Other materials, such as DVDs and CD-ROMs are acquired as necessary. The right to loan materials must be given by the copyright holder to DVDs and CD-ROMS acquired by the library. AV-material used in teaching is not added to the library's collections using library funds. Instead such acquisitions are made using the relevant degree programme's funds.
We choose the central magazines and journals to add to our collections. If the magazine is available in an electronic format, the magazine or journal will only be acquired in paper form in exceptional circumstances (e.g. the paper version is absolutely necessary for teaching).
The acquisition of magazines and journals is reviewed once a year in autumn. Staff may propose the acquisition of new magazines or journals.
